The biased review of the Nexus one
Nexus one: Hit or Miss?
Google unveiled the Nexus One recently- a phone which it believes will
revoloutionize the smartphone, so much so that it calls it a
“superphone"!
But the question remains- is it worth your money?… or is it one of
those so called “iPhone Killers" which never manage to make a dent in
the market, and has iPhone users giggling away at the atempt.
The Nexus One has decent looks- it's made by HTC so there are many
simmilarities to other HTC Phones.... In fact many people have called
it a flattened HTC hero!
It has a trackball- which I feel is most unnecessary in an touch
phone! I mean come on - trackball!?!?! but the trackball does double up as an LED notification device as it blinks to tell of missed calls, messages etc.
Anyways, it wouldn't be fair to just highlight it's shortcomings as it
has 1Ghz SnapDragon processor which is the fastest processor available
for a phone today!!! The benefit are huge because there is virtually
no lag, everything happens lightning fast! It also has a 5 megapixel
camera with led flash so taking pictures sholuld be like a dream...
Unfortunately, not so much. The iPhone 3GS, even with a 3.2 megapixel
camera takes better pictures according to users who have tested both
the phones.
The nexus one also has a very peculiar problem- it can hold only 180
mb worth of apps and one cannot even go around this problem by
installing the apps on the memory card!
Google has thrown in their android market in the phone, and though it
is decent, see the figures for yourself:
Android market: 20,000 apps
Apple App store: 140,000 apps
(pause to catch ones breath)
The Nexus One has another glaring ommission: NO MULTI-TOUCH support!!!
So all you multi-touch fans out there who feel out of place when
they try to pinch zoom into pictures on other phones because they're
so used to their iPhones( including me) will definetely not like this
part.
The bottom line: Go for the Nexus One only if you haven't owned an
iPhone ever and don't mind compromising on fun features that like
multi-touch that most smartphones support these days, and if you want
a very powerfu (very very powerful) device that can perform everyday
tasks at speeds you didn't think were possible! The Nexus One also has
marginally better battery life than the iPhone 3GS, so you can talk
more, surf the web more and play more games than you can with the 3GS.
In a nutshell, the nexus one is perfect for those individuals who are
very impatient and need to have everything happen at lightning speeds
for them, they need functionality and are not too big on fun, so the
lack of multi-touch doesn't bother them.
